Greetings from Key West!
Saltwater Angler has the information for flats fishing in Key West. Our typical weather patterns of lighter winds and daily rain showers will become the norm as our waters begin to heat up. As the flats start to warm up around mid day, most species will move into deeper water.
Getting an early start in the back country will be the key to getting shots at Bonefish, Jacks or even a Permit. Timing your trip with the incoming tide with small tan crab patterns will work with all three species.
As the larger migratory Tarpon continue to move north, anglers will still have plenty of our juvenile fish around in the 20-50 lb. range. Along with the early morning bite, these tarpon can be targeted late in the afternoon as well.
Key West Offshore fishing reports show that Dolphin continue to be the big play offshore with fisherman reporting a good number of large dolphin being caught early.
Some Black fin Tuna are also being caught west of Key West in deeper waters 100-200 feet deep. Yellow tail snapper are plentiful this time of year, just remember to bring lots of chum and patience for the big Flag Snapper to rise up from the reef floor in 40-50 depths.
The Key West reef fishing bite shows that Mutton snapper are still on the reef as well. Black Grouper are being mostly found west of Key West too if you are inclined to venture further out.
As Always, wishing tight lines and fish boat side from The Saltwater Angler!
