Key West Fishing Report

We at the Saltwater Angler wish you a warm and sunny welcome from our little slice of Key West paradise. Thank you for your interest in our Key West Fishing Report for Fishing in Key West and the lower keys!

Greetings from Key West!  Saltwater Angler has the information for flats fishing in Key West.

The fall weather is starting to arrive. This week the forecast is calling for winds from 8 to 30+ mph. Monday through Friday are calling for easterly to southeasterly winds in the 18 to 30+ mph range. Friday afternoon it looks as if the wind will finally start to die off a bit, falling to the 8 to 17mph range. There is a front blowing in through most of the week. The forecast is calling for rain Tuesday through Friday morning. The sun and lower winds are forecasted to show up Saturday and Sunday.

The weather is looking consistent for the next week. The winds will be the 22 to 30+ mph range most of the week. Saturday and Sunday are looking to be great fishing days.

Captains have been reporting groups of Juvenile Tarpon, with some bigger fish mixed in with the right conditions. Bone fish have been a pleasant surprise with many fish being caught as the water temps cool down from the summer heat.. Look to find most Bones active on a tide change later in the day when the suns had a chance to warm the shallows up.

Permit have still been slow this time of year. There have been some permit around, but as always they can be picky and elusive. The large Cudas are starting to show up out on the flats as the water temperature has started to drop. These guys are a great challenge on fly or light spin gear. Remember to get the fly moving fast to get their attention. They love live bait! Wishing everyone tight lines and fish boatside!

Wishing everyone tight lines and fish boatside!

Offshore there have been a great variety of fish being caught. Snapper and grouper have been the normal culprits on the bottom.

There have been a mix of Wahoo, with some Kings, Barracudas, Bonita, Mahi’s, and some Blackfin Tuna have arrived.
