We at the Saltwater Angler wish you a warm and sunny welcome from our little slice of Key West paradise. Thank you for your interest in our Key West Fishing Report for Fishing in Key West and the lower keys!
Greetings from Key West!
Saltwater Angler has the information for flats fishing in Key West.
Winter is almost here in the Keys, so our waters have started to cool down. The next 10 days will be tough with our first cold front. Sunny warm days will still bring great flats fishing, but cold fronts will quiet things down. Picking your days will be important.
If the weather is cooperating, then the Permit and Bone fishing will still be great! Just about any shrimp or small crab pattern if presented right will trigger a strike.
Not much has changed for Juvenile Tarpon, they are also a good option next to many of the deeper mangrove nurseries along with Jacks and Cudas’ too. Cudas, sharks and Jacks on the flats is a great way to spend the day, whether you are on fly or spin gear.
Key West Offshore fishing reports –
The offshore fishing action in Key West and the Lower Key has heated up significantly over the last week with large schools of bait showing up.
The blue water has made its way closer to the shore which has brought Maui, Wahoo, Sailfish and Tuna with it chasing the ballyhoo and other baits. Anglers have found the Wahoo in 600-700 feet of water with Tuna and Maui shallower just outside the reef line in 200-400 feet.
The Blackfin tuna have been a little on the smaller size in a mixed bag of Bonitas and skip jacks, but still a great fight on light spinning gear.
The Key West reef fishing report: The reef fishing still continues to be good as more bait shows up. Yellow Tail snapper and grouper will just get better as winter sets in.
Although getting out with northern winds will make it difficult. Just remember to boat safe and pay attention to the weather forcast.
