We at the Saltwater Angler wish you a warm and sunny welcome from our little slice of Key West paradise. Thank you for your interest in our Key West Fishing Report for Fishing in Key West and the lower keys!
Greetings from Warm and Sunny Key West!
We hope everyone is having a great Holiday this year!
With the year coming to an end, the winds seem to want to calm down a bit and give us some better days of casting. The only thing is we will be seeing another cold front bring temps down to the low 60’s with some nights hitting the 50’s. This will push Bones and Tarpon out into deeper water for protection from the cold.
Good news is with just a little sunshine, Permit will still be hungry and will venture onto the flats looking for food. The Cuda bight will be your best shot in all of the backcountry until a slight temp increase happens.
Remember to keep your fly moving fast as this will entice a bite. Barracuda’s can be a great fight on fly or spinning reels as they love to make long powerful runs on the flats.
Hope everyone has a great New Year!
Key West Offshore fishing reports:
The reef continues to hold an abundant amount of bait. Yellow tail snapper, muton snapper and a number of other species have all been hot as of late.
Live Bait will be best, but many types of scented plastic baits do just as good. The cooler water and northern winds will continue over the next week or so. Be mindful of the weather when venturing out.
