Key West Fishing Report

We at the Saltwater Angler wish you a warm and sunny welcome from our little slice of Key West paradise. Thank you for your interest in our Key West Fishing Report for Fishing in Key West and the lower keys!

Greetings from Key West!  Saltwater Angler has the information for flats fishing in Key West.

Greetings from Warm and Sunny Key West!

The next 7- 10 days will bring light to no wind with the temps still hitting 90+ degrees. It can’t be said enough,… “Getting out early” is the best time to hit the flats. Afternoon trips just before dark when the water has cooled some can also be productive.

Captains are still finding large schools of bonefish to the west and east of Key West. The mid-day flats will be just too hot to be productive.  If out toward the middle of the day, try working over the channel ledges of the flats. A little deeper water could still have fish feeding.

Light colored shrimp patterns in tan, pink, olive and pearl should be in your fly box when hunting Bones. Matching the flies color to the bottom structures color is very important. Young Tarpon averaging 30-60lbs can still be found working deeper ledges off the edge of flats where cooler water moves through.

Permit fishing has still been a little slow since their spawning offshore. As with tarpon, look to find permit this time of year pushing over flats with the changing of the tide and cooler water.
A good fly presentation is more important than crab pattern choice for these brutes. Working the edges of mangroves with baitfish patterns can also get a fisherman hooked up with large snapper and jacks as well.

Key West Offshore fishing reports:

Greetings from Warm and Sunny Key West!

Offshore , the dolphin fishing has been steady with many schooley size fish being caught in deeper water close to the Wall. The reef fishing has been a little slower due to the warmer water pushing bait offshore. Look to find fish in deeper water around 200′ -400′.
Lobster season is just around the corner, so be ready for a multitude of boats out on the water. Remember to pay attention to your surroundings!
