Key West Fishing Report

The spring weather pattern has started to show up here in the Keys. This week the forecast is calling for winds from 3 to 20+ mph. Monday is calling for a lighter north wind. Tuesday through Sunday is calling for an east to northeast wind. Tuesday the wind is forecast to really ramp up out of the east, with the wind dying off as the week progresses.

The forecast is calling for a mix of sun and spotty clouds early in the week, with rain forecast for Tuesday. Friday through Sunday is calling for sunny weather. The temperature is set to be in the mid 70’s throughout the week.

The winds will be in the 3 to 20+ mph range most of the week. Captains have been reporting groups of Juvenile Tarpon, with some bigger fish mixed in with the right conditions. Bonefish have been a pleasant surprise with many fish being caught as the water temps warm up from the winter temperature decrease. Look to find most Bones active on a tide change.

Permit have still been slow this time of year. There have been some permit around, but as always they can be picky and elusive. The large Cudas are out on the flats as the water temperature has started to fall. These guys are a great challenge on fly or light spin gear. Remember to get the fly moving fast to get their attention. They love live bait!

Wishing everyone tight lines and fish boatside!

Key West fishing report for Saltwater AnglerWinter is almost here in the Keys, so our waters have started to cool down. The next 10 days will be tough with our first cold front. Sunny warm days will still bring great flats fishing, but cold fronts will quiet things down. Picking your days will be important.
